Sunshine Sugar Takes Out International Award

The winners of the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards for 2020 have been announced and Sunshine Sugar is proud to be a recipient of a Silver Award for Innovative Management in Consumer Product & Service Industries in the category of ‘Innovation in Management.’

The Stevie® Awards were created in 2002 to honour and generate recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of organizations and working professionals worldwide. The name Stevie is derived from the Greek word for “crowned.”

The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards is one of eight international programs and is open to businesses of all sizes from 29 nations across the Asia-Pacific region. Its judges include many respected executives, entrepreneurs, innovators, and business educators from across the globe.

Sunshine Sugar’s entry “Addressing industry challenges through innovation and diversification” receives a Silver trophy along with technology giant, Dell Technologies, India and USANA Health Sciences, USA.

“To be recognised in this international business awards program is testament to the innovation and diversification strategy we have put in place here at Sunshine Sugar;” said CEO Mr Chris Connors.

Sunshine Sugar’s entry focused on the strategic business plan which is working to maintain productivity across the core product range and building on the strengths of the business and its people; whilst building a portfolio of diversification and innovation for future sustainability. Particular projects showcased in the entry
were Low GI Sugar and Botanical Water.

Mr Connors said; “Sharing a podium with a multinational corporation like Dell Technologies, demonstrates
that the NSW sugar industry is definitely punching well above its weight.”

Capability development to encourage the next generation of sugarcane scientists

The next generation of sugarcane industry researchers is being offered a head-start into the world of sugarcane industry science and technology, through two capability development programs being offered through Sugar Research Australia (SRA).

Applications are open for Sugar Research Australia’s (SRA’s) Sugar Industry Research Awards and Sugar Industry Postgraduate Scholarships. Both programs encourage innovative research ideas and aim to enhance the capability of the research sector that supports the Australian sugarcane industry.

The Postgraduate Research Scholarships program is aimed at Masters or PhD level researchers and is open for applications until October 31, 2020.

The Research Awards program is aimed at existing researchers looking to develop research skills or explore new and innovative ideas. This program is open for applications until October 1, 2020.

“These programs are intended to encourage innovative thinking and allow participants to conduct projects that can demonstrate benefits to the Australian sugarcane industry,” General Manager of the SRA Research Funding Unit, Dr Harjeet Khanna, said.

“Through the Research Awards, projects may be used to develop research skills or explore new and innovative ideas. Not every idea or concept leads to success, but the objective of this scheme is to help provide a catalyst that could result in great potential R&D opportunities.

“We encourage existing or prospective sugarcane industry researchers to apply for these excellent opportunities to advance their career.”
