Queensland Sugar Limited (QSL), Queensland’s industry-owned sugar marketer, has opened a Mackay office to better serve Mackay Sugar mill area growers as they transition to QSL’s new Marketing Choice arrangements.
The office, located in the Canegrowers building in Wood Street in Mackay’s CBD, has been established to provide Mackay district cane growers with a dedicated team focussed on providing excellence in professional assistance.
The new office expands the QSL network of regional offices providing dedicated marketing services to Queensland’s cane growers.
QSL Industry Relationship Manager Cathy Kelly said Mackay Sugar mill area growers were getting closer to being able to exercise their right to choose who markets their Grower Economic Interest (GEI) Sugar, and to continue accessing QSL’s products and services.
“With our negotiations for an On-Supply Agreement (OSA) progressing, growers in the Mackay region are one step closer to being able to nominate QSL as their preferred marketer for the 2019 season. As well, they will have the option to forward price into the 2020 and 2021 seasons,” Ms Kelly said.
The OSA is the contractual agreement between QSL and Mackay Sugar Limited.
“Once finalised, growers will then need to have their own Cane Supply Agreement (CSA) in place to proceed with nominating their marketer of choice.”
“We are prepared – this new office and our committed staff can really hit the ground running as soon as the necessary contracts are finalised,” she said.
Ms Kelly said the Mackay office was already open.
“We have a dedicated QSL Grower Representative Officer, Sonia Ball, on hand to answer any questions growers might have about the process going forward.”
Ms Kelly said she encouraged all Mackay Sugar growers who wanted to continue using QSL to market their GEI sugar to call in at the new Mackay office to have a chat with Sonia Ball, or they could give her a call.
She said while Sonia was new to QSL she had extensive experience within the sugar industry and was well-known to many of the region’s growers through her previous roles as Manager Communications at CANEGROWERS Mackay and as a rural journalist for local regional newspapers The Daily Mercury and Rural Weekly.
Ms Kelly said growers were invited to get the ‘ball rolling’ by filling in a simple Registration of Interest (ROI) form prior to the OSA and CSA being finalised.
“By doing this, we can ensure these growers are being kept in the loop as everything progresses, and they can be contacted once everything is in place,” she said.
“We believe our new office and team will prove invaluable to Mackay Sugar mill area growers as they move into the new marketing structure,” Ms Kelly said.
The QSL office is located at Suite 11, Level 2, Canegrowers building, 120 Wood Street, Mackay.
Cane growers can call Sonia Ball on 4967 4618 or mobile 0418 978 120 to have an ROI emailed to them, or they call into the office to fill one in.
