Queensland’s industry-owned sugar marketer Queensland Sugar Limited (QSL) has expanded its presence in the Mackay region, opening a new ‘pop-up shop’ in Walkerston.
The new office, located on Dutton Street near the bakery, supplements QSL’s existing local offices in Mackay, Sarina
Speaking in Mackay today, QSL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Greg Beashel said the temporary Walkerston office would be open for the duration of the current marketing nomination period for local growers supplying Mackay Sugar.
“Mackay Sugar has recently changed the marketing and pricing arrangements for growers supplying their Mackay mills, which means that after nearly a century using their industry-owned marketer, these growers will lose their access to QSL for the 2019 Season unless they act before March 5,” he said.
“That gives them around just a few weeks to submit their GEI Sugar Marketer Nomination form or Queensland Commodity Services will take over all of their marketing and pricing services for the coming season.
“We’ve had a lot of questions from local growers about this major change to their arrangements, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for them to speak to a QSL rep.”
