Local canegrowers looking pretty proud of the display of Sunshine Sugar products in the local Ballina IGA.
The promotion of the Sunshine Sugar local brand into the Ritchie’s Supa IGA store in Ballina is the first step in putting the Sunshine Sugar brand in front of our local community. We are really happy to be doing that in partnership with this local IGA store that is well known for supporting the local community.
The three raw sugar mills at Condong, Broadwater and Harwood, as well as our refinery at Harwood, are grower owned in partnership with Australian family-owned icon Manildra.
Sunshine Sugar is now the only Australian owned refined sugar operation. We are also the only sugar business in the world that is Bonsucro certified (sustainable, environmental community certified) from the grower right through the sugar milling and refining operations.
In developing our business strategies our employees placed great emphasis on being able to tell family and friends where to buy our local brand. Whilst we supply generic brands into supermarkets around Australia we haven’t had our own identity out there for the local community to be able to support us.
As an industry we employ over 600 personnel and are responsible for an additional 500 jobs. We have over 500 farmers and there are many local businesses that rely on our success.
The local communities are always known to strongly support their local businesses and we are hoping that taking this step will enable us to harness that support.
