Next Gen maintains positive attendance numbers throughout harvest season
Despite a busy harvesting season and farmers now going into crushing, the latest Next Gen meeting was positive with 20 people in attendance.
The day started with a tour around a large property named “Emdex” which is managed by Isis Central Sugar Mill. Members were shown the Mills large water storage and then taken to a trial block where the Mill is exploring various fallow options such as; bare fallow, Soybeans,
Peanuts and a combination with Mill Mud. Attendees were in agreement that these trials were extremely interesting and looked forward to returning next year to observe the difference in the cane crops, especially considering the use of a legume crop is essential on marginal soils such as that of the “Emdex” farm.
The meeting continued on after return to the Alloway country club where an update by QSL’s Cathy Kelly was given. Wayne Muller from Barmac also provided an overview of new products on offer for controlled release urea from Barmac. Next Gen extends many thanks to Wayne for sponsoring the night and proving refreshments for the evening.
