In the Herbert, cyclone damage, followed by flooding has put out communications and affected the town water supply. Cane crops are lodged and have been flooded. It is yet too early to fully assess the damage. Piles of green leaves have accumulated on cane crops, foreshadowing a difficult harvest.
BSES’s Rob Magarey and Adam Royal have been assessing on-farm crop damage.
MIS forestry has been badly affected: in the Herbert area, African mahogany trees are knocked over, leaving some smaller Teak trees standing. Continual rain is compounding clean-up efforts.
