The Sugarcane Environmental Risk Management Plan (ERMP) should be in the hands of cane farmers during the week of 21 June. The mail-out commenced Tuesday evening 15 June.
ACFA has warned Government that the delay in the production of the ERMP will make it very difficult for farmers to comply with the 30 September 2010 deadline. This effectively allows farmers only just over 90 days to complete and lodge the document. Unless RPOs will be available 7 days a week, there will only be about 80 business days to assist farmers with understanding and completing the document.
The launch of the ERMP has converged with the busiest time of the year and ACFA will be keenly monitoring progress.
Although farmers will have little time to concentrate on anything but harvesting and planting, the ACFA encourages farmers, where possible, to schedule at least one member of the farming business to attend an ERMP workshop in their area. The workshops should assist farmers with any questions on the ERMP and should make completing the ERMP a little clearer.
If farmers have any questions or difficulties they should contact their Reef Protection Officer (RPO) on:
