Long-time cane farmer and moustache enthusiast, Michael Hetherington, has laid down a challenge to fellow farmers this November; to grow a moustache in support of the Movember Foundation.
Over 4 million people in 21 countries support Movember which sees men grow a moustache for the entire month of November to help raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems.
“We’ve started a Movember team called the Stubble Shavers and I encourage farmers to get involved,” says Michael.
“I’m challenging farmers from all over to start the 1st November clean shaven and to continue to grow the best Mo they can for the entire month of November.”
Michael says the goal of Movember is to spark conversation about important men’s health issues.
“Us farmers sometimes avoid talking about stuff like this, but we need to look out for each other and we need to speak up if we think something’s not quite right.”
“Farmers are especially vulnerable to stress, anxiety and depression in tough times like these. We need to encourage the people around us to talk more openly about health issues and encourage them to take action,” Michael says.
And what about the ladies you may ask? Women supporting Movember (also known as Mo Sistas) can play a key supporting role in signing up to teams, recruiting Mo Bros, helping raise funds and encouraging the men around them to take action when it comes to their health.
