Who wouldn’t love to land their aircraft next to their cane crop?
Some lucky person will get the chance to combine their passions for agriculture and aviation with an 33ha site in between Mossman and Port Douglas.
The parcel of land with an 580m grass airstrip, sugar cane farm and cottage is up for sale for a price to be determined by tender.
Raine & Horne Port Douglas Mossman agent Travis Schumacher said the sale was unusual but the owner, a “mature woman”, believed it was time to pass the property on to the next generation.
“It is unusual, I haven’t sold many air strips in my life, but it’s a bit of fun,” he said.
“It is close to Port Douglas and has a few permits for landing.
“We have had quite a bit of interest in it. It is certainly gaining some interest from people around the area.
“It will appeal more to someone buying it who is needing to use the airstrip themselves.”
Great Barrier Reef Helicopter Services is a current tenant at the site and it can be used by ultralight aircraft.
The farm provides rent based on 12 per cent of the gross return from the sugar cane harvest and the tenant currently pays 67 per cent of the council rates.
Tender applications closes June 21 at 3pm.
